General Chemical's Boothcoat 5140 is a temporary clear Peelable coating for paint spray-booth walls, ceilings, floors and other surfaces where paint over spray accumulation must be readily removed. Boothcoat 5140 can be used as a Peelable coating on steel surfaces to eliminate flash rusting or as protection on glass, Plexiglas, rubber, cement, aluminum and many other hard surfaces. |

Boothcoat 5140 represents the ultimate in non-solvent Peelable coatings. It is well stabilized against brittleness and it will not be softened or penetrated by most solvent-based paints. Boothcoat 5140 has no VOC's. |

Temperature: 72 F +/- 1 degree Concentration: Soak, Spray, Cascading or: spray Special Requirements or Conditions to Avoid: I need a product that can be sprayed on aluminum parts and then machined. I use coolant now to wash away chips, sometimes the chips scratch the surface of the part I am machining. This scraps the part I am machining. I would like to have a water based product that I could spray on, let dry, then cover with oil. If possible I would like to use your product to lubricate my tool, and not cover with oil. |

How To Apply: |
|

Boothcoat 5140 coating when applied improperly can cause problems. Proper application results in a tough film of uniform thickness with no sags, less application time and minimal clean-up labor. General Chemical's waterborne clear Peelable coating may be used wherever temporary protective coatings are needed to reduce cleanup problems. Spray-booths, floors, windows, walls, machinery, equipment and fixtures have all been applications for Peelable coatings. Apply 10-12 mils wet water based Peelable film to clean, dry surfaces (booth walls, fixtures) in a smooth, continuous spray. If using airless equipment, use .015 or .017 nozzle at a set pressure of 1200-1500 PSI. With conventional air spray, we recommend Binks nozzle #68PB with needle #368 at a pressure of 35-55 PSI. |

After significant paint overspray buildup, film may be quickly and easily removed. Cut film to start peeling from one corner. Production time between cleaning is increased; quality control is improved with better illumination. |

Simply peel off in large, continuous sheets. Booth is left clean and ready for next application. Messy hand scraping or solvent removal eliminated. Clean-up is fast. Waste disposal costs cut. |

Boothcoat 5140 is normally used as received. It is applied by airless spray, roller or brush . The sprayed Peelable coating air-dries in 10 minutes to 3 hours, depending on thickness of the coating, humidity, temperature and air movement. Boothcoat 5140 is applied to form a film thickness in the range of 2 to 5 mils (.002" to .005"). The coating is resistant to attack by most paint solvents. Application temperature is ambient to no lower than 60° F. Boothcoat 5140 coating cures upon water evaporation. Improved air movement and temperatures up to 130ºF will cure this coating in as little as ten minutes. |

Booth Coat 5140 is uniquely formulated excluding ingredients that are deleterious to the painting process (such as silicones) or the water washes system (such as foam generation or stabilizing ingredients). |

Operating Guidelines: |
|
|
|
|
|
| |
1.When applying 5140, use the same protection as used while applying paint. The booth ventilation system
|
|
|
|
|
| |
2.should be operating while the material is being sprayed. |
|
|
|
|
| |
3.Chemical goggles and impervious gloves should be worn when handling or mixing. |
|
|
|
|
| |
4.Use of non-sparking metal is advised to scrape or spud to remove booth coating to avoid fire hazard from accumulated paint. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |

First Time Application: |
|
|
|
|
|
| |
If the Our Peelable coating film rips or tears, the flap may be lifted and resealed by applying a fresh wet coat to the underside and resealing. Alternatively, cut away flap and re-apply fresh coating, it will bond to itself.
|

|
|
|
| |
I. Pre-cleaning of Equipment: |
|
| |
To clean pressure pot, airless equipment, spray guns, spray lines, do the following:
|
|
|
|
|
| |
1. Flush equipment and lines with current paint thinner (ex. Toluene, MEK, Xylene, etc.) |
|
|
|
|
| |
2.Follow with a water reducible solvent such as Butyl Cellosolve. This will help remove solvent residue. |
|
|
|
|
| |
3.Now thoroughly rinse with water. Make sure all solvent and paint residue is removed |
|
|
|
|
| |
II. Pre-cleaning of Spray Booth Walls:
|
|
|
|
|
| |
To clean all surfaces where BOOTH COAT5140 is to be applied, do the following if the last peelcoat that was used was a solvent-based product (this will aid in the first time peel/water removal of BOOTHCOAT5140. |
|
|
|
|
| |
1.Clean surface with butyl-Cellosolve type cleaner.
|
|
|
|
|
| |
2.Remove all previous peelcoat, oils and dirt, and solvent residue from Surface. |
|
|
|
|
| |
The dry Our Peelable coatings strippable coating film can be easily removed either by hand stripping or other means. Our Peelable coatings are thermoplastic. Do not try to remove in freezing conditions. Our Peelable coatings becomes brittle in freezing condition.
|
|
|
|
|
| |
NOTE: You do not have to do this cleaning step to have BOOTHCOAT5140 peel/water rinse off of the surface. Although it aids in the first time water rinse/peel of the product. Second and continuous applications can eliminate this step. |
|
|
|
|
| |
3.You are now ready to use BOOTHCOAT5140.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

Some Equipment Notes: |
|
|
|
|
|
| |
Airless System: Recommended tip size is .070. Similar to a glue tip will suffice.
|
|
|
|
|
| |
Pressure Pot: Booth coat works well under the following conditions.Pot pressure at 10-15 psi while atomization pressure is 40 psi. If a cloud effect occurs the pressure is too high. try to control this at the spray gun. If that fails turn down the pressure a the pressure pot.

|
|
|
| |
BOOTHCOAT5140 can also be applied by rolling coating or by brushing. |
|
|
|
